Hema Sundaram

Dr. Hema Sundaram is a fellowship-trained, Board Certified dermatologist, and medical director of her cosmetic dermatology, laser and surgery clinics in suburban Washington, D.C. She has a special interest in elucidating the scientific basis of new and emerging aesthetic technologies. Dr. Sundaram holds masters and medical degrees with honors from Cambridge University in England. She completed dermatology residency at the University of Chicago, post-doctoral research in molecular biology, and a medical staff fellowship at the National Institutes of Health where she served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S Public Health Service.

Dr. Sundaram is a Visiting Professor for the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), Co-Chair of the ASDS Dermatologic Surgery International Fellowship Recognition Work Group, and a mentor for the ASDS Future Leaders' Network to prepare the next generation of leaders in dermatologic surgery. She has received awards for clinical and research work and her publications. She has served as a session director and moderator at the AAD and ASDS Annual Meetings, and as a keynote speaker at plastic, oculoplastic and facial plastic surgery academy conferences.

Dr.. Sundaram is a Principal Investigator for FDA studies of fillers, toxins, lasers, other devices and cosmeceuticals. She is a scientific consultant for study design, development of assessment scales, and regulatory submissions. She directs physician education initiatives and founded the Global Aesthetics Alliance, which brings together dermatologists and plastic surgeons from throughout the world to optimize procedural safety and outcomes. She serves on scientific boards including for the IMCAS Congresses, and is Director of the SEASON Aesthetics Conference in London (www.SEASON2020.com).
Dr. Sundaram is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, Editorial Advisor to Prime and other journals, and a peer reviewer for journals including Dermatologic Surgery and the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. Her book, "Face Value", was honored by the National Press Club. Her medical publications include chapters and original papers on injectables, lasers, threads and cosmeceuticals, and a new fillers book currently in press. Her clinics are noted for their charitable donations.
